"The basic tasks of the university's academic advising program are to help advisees identify and achieve their academic goals, to promote intellectual discovery, to encourage students to take advantage of both in and out of class educational opportunities, and to become self-directed learners and decision makers." - 32-00 Advising Policy
Penn State Greater Allegheny advisers make this policy a reality for our students. Students and advisers are assigned based upon a student's current program of study, and an adviser's area of expertise.
First Year Students meet with an academic adviser during FTCAP (Freshman Testing, Counseling, and Advising Program) and then meet their assigned advisers during Orientation.
Students will hear from their academic advisers after fourth and seventh week progress reports are available. Students should schedule an appointment with their adviser prior to registering for an upcoming semester, and email advisers when any questions or problems arise.
